Fire destroys Philippines shanties

At least two people have been killed and nearly 1,500 more made homeless after a massive fire tore through two coastal villages north of the Philippine capital, Manila.

A senior fire officer for the Navotas district, where the fire began, said on Friday that the fire started in one shanty and quickly spread

The blaze erupted late on Thursday, buring some 350 shanties in two crowded villages.

A man was transferring gasoline to a plastic container near a burning cooking stove, which then ignited a gasoline container, starting the blaze.
